Collect Evidence to show progress within the Curriculum for Excellence

B Squared has worked in partnership with schools in North Lanarkshire to ensure Evisense can be used by schools in Scotland to quickly and easily record photo and video evidence of learning relating to the Curriculum for Excellence Experiences and Outcomes (Es & Os). Designed to help educators record and highlight students’ achievements, Evisense creates a portfolio of a child's educational journey through the CfE.

Easily record achievements & experiences

Evisense enables pupils and teachers to record achievements and experiences linked to skills for learning life and work. Schools can share this with parents and engage students in dialogue to help them understand where they are currently and what their next steps will be.

Share securely with parents

Evidence of accomplished Es & Os can be quickly and easily shared with parents through the app or printed reports with embedded QR codes to access videos. This enables parents to talk with their children about their learning and consolidate the knowledge and understanding gained. When given permission, parents can also upload evidence of children’s achievements at home. This can help staff to engage less communicative pupils about their evening, weekends and holidays.

Reduce reporting time

Evisense was developed in response to feedback from staff who were frustrated with the amount of time spent collating supporting evidence. This digital solution eliminates the laborious task of cutting and pasting photographs into reports, so staff can focus on supporting students. Evisense has been designed to be secure, collaborative and flexible.

“Using Connecting Steps and Evisense, teachers can plan, assess, report, monitor, track and moderate progress across the Curriculum for Excellence – supporting all children and young people to achieve Scotland’s vision for life in the 21st Century including learning life and work.”

Easy & securely share students’ progress with parents

Seeing a child’s Es & Os on video adds greater meaning for parents compared with reading written observations. Watching their children engaging in school life helps parents to be more involved. Parents can then talk to their child about what they have learnt or enjoyed in school and extend their learning outside the classroom. Evisense makes home-school communication easy and straightforward, increasing parental engagement.

Show small steps of progress for students with ASN

Being able to record the achievements of students with ASN using photos and videos is an important part of the assessment process. Teaching staff can use this evidence of learning to show Experiences and demonstrate Outcomes in a meaningful way and gather evidence of a child’s holistic development in a range of formats (photo, audio, video, etc.).

Filter & review evidence of learning based on SHANARRI indicators

Evisense allows teaching staff to tag different pieces of evidence with one of the eight SHANARRI wellbeing indicators (safe, healthy, achieving, nurtured, active, respected, responsible, and included) or as an aspect of the learner’s Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) accomplishments. Once tagged, these posts can be filtered and then viewed together in order to represent a student’s successes within each area or to allow the school to showcase the provision they are delivering.

Moderate students' work

Evisense can help teachers to moderate students' work. When used with our Connecting Steps assessment software, evidence can be tagged with a subject and level. This allows staff to look at the range of, for example, First Level writing across the school and make collective decisions together.
