Evisense supports SENCOs

Although SENCOs in special needs schools and mainstream schools are both the leads for SEND, SENCOs in a mainstream school face different challenges to those in special schools. Click on the buttons below to find out how Evisense can help you in your role.

The main challenges SENCOs face in special schools

SENCOs in special needs schools report that whilst they can see the progress made by their pupils, it can be difficult to write it down and chart it. It is challenging to be able to record the subtle progress made by students with PMLD or SLD.

Show progress

A very small achievement can represent huge progress, which can be hard to communicate to parents, carers, therapists and social workers. In these instances, a picture or video can speak a thousand words.

Many of the activities undertaken by children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) are temporary, such as building a tower of bricks or mark making in sand/shaving foam. Being able to record these achievements using photos and video is an important part of the assessment process.

Make better informed decisions

Evisense is a simple and straightforward way to manage evidence, teachers can easily record, comment on and share students’ academic and holistic achievements using photos, videos, audio files and documents. Schools can use Evisense to build a vital portfolio of evidence to ‘tell the story’ of a student’s time in education, aid communication and to help all stakeholders make better informed decisions for each student’s well-being.

Enable meaningful communication

Seeing what a child has actually achieved and experienced adds meaning to attainment scores. Parental engagement is known to improve educational outcomes. Involving parents in the student’s school life, provides opportunities to consolidate and extend learning outside the classroom. Evisense can strengthen the relationship between schools, parents, and outside agencies by enabling effective and timely communication.

Do you struggle to write progress reports for children with SEN?

Areas for development can easily be identified. Teachers can filter by group, curriculum, subject level or broad area of need: Cognition & Learning; Communication & Interaction; Social, Emotional & Mental Health; & Sensory or Physical Development.

Arrange a FREE online meeting to find out how Evisense can be used to easily and securely record observation-based evidence of students’ learning, to support your judgements.

"Evisense benefits us hugely as the vast majority of our pupils with SEND cannot complete a worksheet or do other 'typical' standard forms of assessment."

SENCOs face multiple challenges in mainstream schools

Government guidelines have changed, the P Levels have been removed and many SENCOs have little support or training due to lack of school funds at Government and Local Authority level.

Difficult position

The National SENCO Workload Survey found that 78% of SENCOs stated that other roles and/or tasks routinely pulled them away from being able to carry out their SENCO role effectively. And with numbers of students with SEN attending mainstream schools increasing, SENCOs are reporting being overworked and ‘time poor'.

Students requiring EHCPs have increased and collating supporting evidence for each statement is time consuming.

Being the SENCO can feel lonely when you are often the only one doing that job within a school.

Makes EHCPs quicker & easier

Use Evisense to collaborate with your colleagues for a joined-up approach. It helps to reduce workload and frees up your time. You choose who can view or comment on posts. It can be securely shared with teachers, social workers, parents and all stakeholders. Evidence of learning can even be linked to assessment points in the curriculum when used alongside Connecting Steps.

Puts you in control

Evisense is designed to be ‘SENCO-centric’. Teachers can record evidence to support judgements quickly and easily. Photo, video and audio files can be uploaded to a student’s ‘wall’ where observations can be recorded and then tagged to be used for reporting. Using reports you can easily collate evidence to support the teacher’s judgements.

Real Life Story

A student joins a school and doesn’t speak for the first year. After 3 years of hard work, the student stands up on stage at the school production and sings in front of an audience!

Evisense was used to show this emotional and powerful story, by capturing video evidence through the student's journey. The school was able to demonstrate just how far that student had come from their starting point.
